Both events hosted representatives from government, business, and academia at the beautiful Makietie Venue in Oudtshoorn. Nestled in the heart of the Klein Karoo, Makietie oered the perfect setting for these annual gatherings. While the gala celebrated outstanding achievements, the congress meeting the following day tackled pressing financial issues facing South Africa, with a spotlight on the vital role small businesses play in the national economy.

The evening of Thursday, November 7th, marked the annual AHi gala—a time to honor exceptional contributions and foster community among South African entrepreneurs and business leaders. Among the night’s honorees was Jan-Pierre Schoeman, crowned Small Farmer of the Year 2024. Another significant award went to the Oudtshoorn Business Chamber, which proudly took home the prestigious AHi Chairman’s Award, Business Chamber of the Year. This recognition highlights the Oudtshoorn Chamber’s continued dedication to supporting the local economy and strengthening the community, reinforcing the town’s status as a vital player in South African business development. AHi’s outgoing Deputy Chairman, Albert Geldenhuys, emphasised the growing importance of business chambers in today’s economic climate. "I am convinced that business chambers are becoming increasingly important," he noted, underscoring how essential these organisations are for nurturing and sustaining small businesses across the country.

Other category winners for 2024 included Adalene Rudolph from Enchanted Coee who received the Small Business (Entrepreneur) of the Year award, Carien Hugo-Waring from Moorrees who received the Hospitality Business of the Year award, and Alicia van chalkwyk from Lily Lines who took home the Starter Business of the Year award.

The evening was not only a celebration of remarkable achievements but also a testament to the enduring relationships between fellow business leaders. It highlighted the importance of cultivating these connections, with the shared realisation that challenges feel more achievable when faced together.

The Congress on Friday, November 8th, carried forward the momentum with in-depth discussions on the country’s financial hurdles and solutions.
